Building a representative public service

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is committed to achieving a public service that reflects the diversity of Canada.

The PSC is responsible for identifying and eliminating barriers in recruitment and staffing, and for developing policies and practices that will continue to help ensure that equity group members are well represented in the federal public service. The PSC reports annually to Parliament on these activities, including progress on employment equity in staffing and recruitment.

The link between merit and representativeness under the Public Service Employment Act is reaffirmed in the PSC statement, Merit – Achieving Representativeness.
